WHO IS UNGKU ABDUL AZIZ

"Why only Malays have to seek shelter elsewhere during floods?"



This is Ungku abdul aziz bin ungku abdul hamid.He was born on 28 january 1922 in London. His father is Ungku Abdul Hamid bin Ungku Abdul majid was a lieutenant in the army and his mother name Hamidah binti Abdullah who is a turkey descent and was converted Muslim. His royal blood of Johor started from his grandmother, Roquaiya Hanim (1864 -1904), when she and her sister Khatijah was comes from Turkey being as the brides of Sultan of Johor, Sultan Abdul Bakar and his brother, Ungku Abdul Majid. Khatijah married the sultan while Roquiya Hanim married Ungku Abdul Majid. He is nephew of our Datuk Onn Jaafar and cousin our third prime minister of Malaysia, Tun Hussein Onn.


He had married with his wife Sharifah Azah Aziz and his only daughter which is our Malaysia’s Governor Nation bank, Y.M Dato’ Sri Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz.

Ungku was born in London and he was return back to Malaysia when he was five years old. His mother was died when he was 2 years old (1924) and after that all about his education was handle by his father Ungku Abdul Hamid. He was brought back by his grandmother from London to stay in batu pahat johor. He had been raised by his grandmother and mostly during his childhood he was travel around of Europe with his father. His attitude and excellent in education was inherited by his father who is one of Cambridge University at that time. His father can speak fluently in Parsi, Arabic and Sanskrit language. 

His father,Ungku Abdul Hamid loves reading and knowledge. He is the one that influencing ungku abdul aziz in his education by influencing him to read book in order to get the knowledge. There three factor why ungku abdul aziz love to read which are read to get the knowledge. Then, read can be a good job and reading can be one styles of relaxing after doing lots of work. Ungku abdul aziz tried to remembering a thousand words in one minutes.

Ungku abdul aziz was spending most of his childhood in Johor Bharu, he had completed his primary education at Sekolah Rendah Ngee Heng, Sekolah Bukit Zahrah and then Sekolah Melayu Batu Pahat Then, he had further his studies in s by attended English College in Johor Bharu. Then he completed  his study in secondary schooling at Raffles College Singapore (now was called Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar). He had got the Diploma in Arts (classII) in 19941 until 1947.

Then, Ungku Abdul Aziz furthers his study in Bachelor of Arts (Honors class) in Economic at University of Malaysia, Singapore (1951).then he further his studies in doctors of economic (Hakase) at Waseda University Tokyo around 1964. During his early education was interrupted by Japanese Occupation and the Second World War but he managed to spend around two years in Waseda University Tokyo , then he return to Malaysia to complete his post graduate study. After that he had got a few of honorary degrees from different country.

CONTRIBUTION TOWARD MALAYSIA

Ungku abdul aziz give lot of contribution towards of education, community and economic. He firmly believes that teaching and learning process are the effecting a positive change for woes faced by a society. Ungku aziz is the one that rise up the Malay language to the higher education level such as in universities, educational organization and international level. Ungku Abdul aziz is the one that create and contribute in Dasar Ekonomi Baru(DEB) which is the pilgrims’ Fund and Management Board that referred to Tabung Haji that an organization that manage the Muslim that want to go Makkah. Besides that this organization is not only encourage the society to save their money for pilgrimage but also for their children’s education.

He has continued by play main roles in academic circles as one of founders of Malaysian Economics Association.other than that, Ungku Abdul Aziz also is one that created Pusat Asasi Sains at University Malaya (UM. This kind of matriculation was set up to help students that come from poor background.Other than that, he was a vigorous proponent of the use of the national language which is Bahasa Malaysia in education. he also the man behind for Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka and Angkatan Kopereasi Kebangsaan Berhad (ANGKASA).

Furthermore, Professor Aziz has made a great contribution to the promotion of cultural exchange between ASEAN countries, as well as other Southeast Asian and Asian countries. He has held the post of President of the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning and earnestly advocates the establishment of an ASEAN University. His intellectual leadership, both internationally and in the Southeast Asian region, is highly valued. Professor Ungku Aziz has maintained a close relationship with Japan and it is well-known that he has devoted himself to the promotion of scientific exchange between Malaysia and Japan.

In EDUCATIONAL sector
When Ungku entered into the educational sector, there are lots of changes that he had been made. His new career proved about his longevity and brilliance in making new transformation in academic sector of Malaysia. Ungku had taugh as a Lecturer in Economic at the University of Malaya in 1952 and he had obtained full professorship, then become the Dean of Faculty Arts, Economics and Administration.then he was appointed as Vice Chancellor University of Malaya and becoming the first Malaysian and longer serving person to hold that position. The latest award that he got is the Merdeka Award (2008) in education and he become the first one got that kind of award. There is a book about Professor Ungku Aziz that was written by Hashim Yaacob, Abu Bakar Abd Hamid, KT Joseph and Azizah Hamzah that was lauched by the prime minister. The book was named The Renaissance Man that expose about his contribution and career.

The establishment of Pilgrims’ Fund and Management Board or Tabung Haji, is the most significant accomplishments. The ideas behind of the ideas Tabung Haji is to provide a place for Muslim only to save their money using the Islamic priciples in order to perform the Haj. Other than that, he also the presidents of ANGKASA (ANGKATAN KOPERASI KEBANGSAAN BERHAD), the National Co-operation Organization of Malaysia whch is acts as the apex body for Malaysian co-operatives which is aims to educate the publich with co-operatives. He is the one that created formulate the sarong index as a measure of rural poverty. His work being the main roles for achievement the poor people.

THE SECRET OF SUCCESS AND HOBBIES

  •   Book



Everyone in this would have their own hobbies and what they most like to during their free time. So do to Professor Ungku Abdul Aziz. The most things that Ungku Abdul Aziz loves to do is since his childhood is reading. He always said that book and he is something that cannot be separated off. Book is like gold and it can give many benefits to us if we read it especially about the Malay’s poem.

  • Jog

He is the first one that applying jogging in the morning in Malaysia. He started to jog when he was early 60 years old. At that time the cardiovascular through jogging is not really familiar around the world. Every morning he will be started jogging around 5 a.m around University of Malaya and even though, many of people say that he was mad or crazy when he jog in early in the morning, but he just ignore what people said about him. He had never play golf because in his opinion, golf is not part of sport.

"I can safely say that I'm perhaps one of the first 'joggers'. On a

regular basis, that is. For exercise and as a hobby. Just to

contextualise what I'm saying: I started jogging at a time when
'jogging shoes' were unheard of."





  • .    DIET

Diet is something that familiar with Ungku Abdul Aziz’s life which is he had already applying the diet tactics to healthy in mind and body. He had already doing his research about food can be affect the performance of our brain. For the breakfast he will be take a few of dates palm and a few type of juice. The lunch time, he will take the international food such as sushi,western food and he only eat rice twice per week. He is really concern about his balance diet because good of technique in balance diet can help to improve the performance of our brain.

He is very strictly in time. He think that if we cannot to discipline with our time, how come we want to change our world.
